Ladies Social Club Recap

Nora Shelton, Sandy Carpenter, Ruby Herman, Jill Lui, and Debbie Maxwell

The Robson Ranch Arizona Ladies Social Club held their luncheon on Nov. 14, 2022. The guest speaker was Sandy Carpenter, a Robson Ranch resident, who shared her personal experience when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2021, killing all 64 people on board and 125 people in the Pentagon. Sandy worked in the Army intelligence office at the Pentagon during this time, however was at a training in Florida when the crash occurred. She shared how difficult it was to be in another place while watching her friends and coworkers perish, as the plane crashed near her office. Survivor’s guilt was something she had to deal with.

Sandy provided a brief overview of how she was hired at the Pentagon and what happened on that fateful day, including photos of the damage that was done to the building. It took two weeks before she was able to return to the Pentagon, and more than 20 years after that before she was able to recount this experience to others. On Sept. 11, 2008, seven years after the attacks, the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial was created in Arlington, Va., to remember and honor those who died that day.

We appreciate Sandy for being willing to come and share her experience with us, and remind us of those who lost their lives in this tragic event.

On a lighter note, names were drawn for the Christmas tree raffle. Congratulations to the following winners: Betty Gust (Holiday Magic), Cathy Mickelson (Rose Gold Sparkly Noel), Mae King (Snowy Christmas Morning tree), and Sue Jensen (Buffalo Plaid Yule).
