What Are the Material Girls Up to This Summer?

Sharon White

Even though a number of our members have left for their summer homes, the Material Girls who are still at home on the Ranch are as busy as ever. The Garment Group delivered 21 backpacks to the Advocacy Center in Eloy and made shirt savers and dignity scarves for assisted living homes.

Our Block of the Month group is working on two themed quilts for the golf and pickleball enthusiasts in the community, a youth themed quilt, and a panel quilt focusing on different border techniques. The Fabric Committee is putting together quilt kits for our members to stitch up Comfort Quilts for Robson residents who have a terminal illness or who have lost a spouse, as well as project kits for items to sell at the November Craft Fair. The Craft Fair Committee is busy cutting fabric and batting for more microwave bowl holders. The Longarm Committee will continue quilting the quilts that have accumulated in the Comfort Quilt cupboard.

Members also beat the heat by bringing their personal projects to work on with friends in the comfort of an air conditioned studio. There’s always a project on the design wall, pillowcases being constructed, tote bags coming together, finishing touches on a wallhanging, adding binding to sets of placemats, even Christmas gifts being made early!

The studio is getting a bit of a facelift this summer as well. All the Material Girl cupboards have been cleaned out and organized by the members of each committee to prepare for the installation of new pull-out shelving. A little shuffling of cabinets, cutting tables, and ironing stations will take place over the summer to better utilize the space and make our studio more efficient.

Come down and take a look at what the Material Girls are working on this summer. You may even want to join in the fun!
