Vagabonds enjoy a trip to Las Cruces

The Vagabonds

The Vagabonds

Once again the Vagabond RV Club had a great, fun, informative trip with new friendships and food!

We arrived October 23 and broke camp October 28. The Wagon Masters, Jim and Teresa Baxter, organized a terrific time for all 26 of us. The arrival evening we had Margaritas and all contributed to a heavy hors d’ oeuvres spread.

The fun and learning included: first day, a visit to White Sands National Monument where you could take a picture of each other and people thought you were in the snow! The same day the New Mexico Museum of Space History and on the way back we stopped at the Missile Range and dinner out.

The second day was the New Mexico State Chile Pepper Institute. It is a non-profit organization devoted to education and research about Chile Pepper where we learned there are over 150 types of peppers. Our docent picked about 15 varieties fresh and told us how each ranged in hotness. He was great, and we learned lots. Lunch was at the University Bistro. The next stop was a Docent tour of the Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum. That evening we had a delicious potluck.

We had the third day to explore the many interesting things to see and do in Las Cruces, followed by a chili cook-off and a dessert cook-off won by Terry Price with prizes awarded!

Day four our tradition is for the Men’s Breakfast on the last morning. Men only prepare and serve. This year you put together your own breakfast burritos from a great selections of meat, cheese, etc. with potatoes, fresh fruit, juice, rolls and coffee. The golfers in our group went to the Red Hawk Golf Club where many balls were lost! The rest of us carpooled to the Outlet Mall in Anthony, Texas. Our last meal together was at the St. Clair Winery. The next morning we broke camp and headed home. This outing included: Teresa and Jim Baxter; Jeff and Linda Ottle; Bob and Mary Burton; Richard and Debbie Harris; Esther and Stan Strickland; Ron and Diane Brothers; Rebecca and Tom McKinney; Karen and Ben Augun; Loretta and John Sutton; Mary and Skip Syer; Wayne and Becky Moritz; Terry and Dard Price and Jim and Clare Law.

The Vagabond outings are three to four times a year, and the number of rigs varies from six to 15. Our club is growing rapidly so the trips are getting bigger! The January trip was to Parker, AZ led by Jim and Clare Law. More to follow!

We meet the first Friday of each month, October to May, at the Sports Center. If you have an RV of any kind, come to a meeting and check us out! We have lots of fun and get educated at the same time. For more information please call Bob Burton at 503-999-4439 or go to our website: mygrove.com
