On Monday, Jan. 24, the 6th Mah Jongg Fun Day was held at Robson Ranch, with 51 Mah Jongg players in attendance.
The attendees played 16 hands of Mah Jongg throughout the day. To keep their energy level up, the players enjoyed snacks and desserts in the Laredo/Cheyenne rooms and a lovely luncheon of pizza and Caesar salad in the Hermosa Ballroom.
The Mah Jongg Fun Day committee members who organized the event were Carol Simmons, Gloria LaMere, Mona Rod, and Sharon Wiltjer. Sharon spearheaded the rules and scorecards. She did an amazing job explaining the rules in the weeks leading up to the day and, of course, on Jan. 24. Mona and Gloria were shoppers extraordinaire, and did an excellent job setting up all of the snack baskets and player gifts. Carol expertly planned and organized the entire event, including player sign up, lunch, and the prizes, as well as all the behind-the-scenes stuff. The entire committee did an excellent job with game-day set-up, check-in, and organization.

The players each received a player gift of a coin purse, new dice, and a Mah Jongg tile necklace for the women and the one male player received a Mah Jongg tile keychain. The necklaces were made by Carol Simmons and her father, Fred Spell of Texas, in memory of Carol’s late husband, Mikie.
Everyone went home a winner! It was a win-win kind of day and truly a “Fun Day!”
Many thanks to Nicole McCracken and Sarah Cecil, and their staff, for coordinating the event at the Robson Ranch facilities.
