Let’s talk about yarn!

Diane Oleson

Happy Fourth of July!

I decided to look for yarn from our stash to make various items for our charities and we have our yarns organized by weight, or so I thought.

Yarn has a number from one to six generally and this is the weight or size of yarn with some exceptions as follows:

UK – English

1 ply – Lace Weight

2 ply – Fingering

3 ply – 4 Medium or Sock

4 ply – Worsted or Sport

8 ply – Light Weight

DK – Light Weight

Aran – Worsted

Chunky – Bulky

Super Chunky – Super Bulky

My point being: be sure to make a swatch of your project so you know if you have the correct yard and/or needles or hook for your project.

When working with dark colored yarn, use a light-colored hook or needle and vice versa.

Most of the Needle Crafters have gone to cooler areas for the summer. So, if you have come to the Creative Arts Center and my sandwich board is not out, please call me at 541-671-0634. I do plan on being at the center Thursdays from 9:00 a.m.-noon. The only exception would be if I decided to escape the heat.
