The new interdenominational church at Robson Ranch held its first formation gatherings in October and was attended by 39 people. We were very eager to listen to what our Robson community wants in a new church.
Pastor Ron Hunt noted that the word church literally means “a gathering of people.” He was eager to have this gathering of Robson residents help shape the vision and ministry of the new church.
As a “permission giving” church, members may offer ideas for forming various groups based on their own spiritual gifts and interests. Samples of ideas they shared were Bible studies, spiritual friendship groups, interfaith studies, outreach ministry to those in need and caring ministries for Robson residents. In addition, they offered dozens of suggestions for what they are hoping to find in a worship service and in creating a welcoming, loving space for all. That’s a lot of gifts and interests!
The name of the church is Friendship Center, based upon our vision of “Loving God, Loving Everyone, Everywhere.”
Pastor Ron says, “The primary text of the vision and mission of Friendship Center is John 15:9-17. Here Jesus calls his disciples ‘friends’ at the Last Supper. This is the inspiration for the name and for counting every person as equal in Christ’s love.”
A new website is underway at www.FriendshipCenter.net. The church’s mission statement, along with other information, is on the website. The mission statement was formulated upon Jesus’ words and actions in the Gospels.
There will be one more formational gathering held Saturday, December 1 at 4:00 p.m. in the Ranch House Laredo Room. We will share how we will worship each Sunday and discuss planning for small groups and other gifts of Friendship Center.
In time for Christmas, Pastor Ron will lead a Christmas Bible study for the whole Robson community on December 15 at 4:00 p.m., also located in the Laredo Room.
Our first worship service will be January 6, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. in the Ranch House Laredo/Cheyenne Rooms.
