The January 27 Beginning Watercolor Class

Doreen Beers

As the instructor, my focus was on very beginning beginners, so we concentrated on the basics. We discussed paper—the differences in quality and how paint reacts. Then we discussed the differences in paints between tube paints and cake paints and how to mix colors. We used a variety of brushes to demonstrate their different effects. We used some interesting techniques like wet-on-wet, kosher salt, and splattering.

I’m always amazed at how different art can be using the same subject, but everyone has their own unique take. Some very beautiful art resulted, and I hope interest in continuing on a watercolor journey was sparked.
