RC Club Flying and Racing Updates

Henry Morgan and Bob Kehoe

The Aviators of the Robson Ranch Radio Control (RC) Club recently ended another fun-filled flying season.

The coveted “Top Gun” competition was completed with exciting results. We extend a huge thank you to Ben Blissett for all his work in coordinating our popular Fun Fly events. Ben mentioned that improvement in pilot skills was evident as scores were higher than in previous years. It was great to see eleven pilots in the points!

The overall results were: Top Gun—Ralph Kulling; 2nd place—Henry Morgan; 3rd place—Ed Brumfield.

In other news from the airfield, we completed several major improvement projects to our facility over the past year, beginning with winning the battle of the wet spring and all the weeds! It took many hours of work by our volunteers to get us back to smooth, weed-free runways.

We added pavers and modified work benches to be more Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant. We then added a safety fence that separates the pit and spectator areas from the active flight line. This fence is 10 feet tall with a screen over the top of the spectators and will keep everyone safe should an aviation anomaly occur. Many thanks to Ken Fosnight for helping us erect this structure! Another improvement to note for the flyers is that we’ve added new pilot stations and created an area for larger aircraft near the north-south runway.

One more significant addition to the RC Club’s combined facility is the recent addition of an ADA compliant porta-potty, which is centrally located between the racetracks and the flying field.

With all these improvements, the Robson Ranch RC facilities may now rival any others in the region.

We are looking forward to another great flying season beginning this fall. If you have ever wanted to learn more about model aviation, come on out to our airfield!
