Open Hearted, Open Minded, and Inclusive

Milt and Margie Calhoun

Looking for a church can be a daunting task. After moving to Robson Ranch, my wife, Margie, and I, were looking for a church that best represents Christ’s original church and teachings. In Galatians 3:28, Paul states, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Notice it does not state that “some” of you or “many” of you are one in Christ Jesus but rather all of you. The original church was not separated into different denominations, groups, or classes of people, but rather individual members who came together as one with their different backgrounds, customs, races, genders, and even languages. The first church was a very diverse group of individuals who embraced each other despite their differences.

We were so thankful to find Friendship Center at Robson Ranch, which is an interdenominational church—a diverse group of people. Among the membership, you’ll find Lutherans, Methodists, Presbyterians, Catholics, Baptists, and more. We are from a variety of faith backgrounds and yet we are able to come together as one to center on what matters: the worship, celebration, knowledge, and ministry of Jesus Christ.

The mission statement of Friendship Center is “Loving God, Loving Everyone, Everywhere.” We strive to grow spiritually, serve our members, our community, and the world. We look to Jesus’ gospel as our spiritual center, basing our lives on Jesus’ good news for all. We very much appreciate the teaching of Pastor Ron Hunt. As Ron teaches the Bible, he often goes back to the original Greek or Hebrew to capture the real meaning of what’s being said. This has helped us to have a better understanding of the Word of God. While in seminary at Pacific Lutheran University in California, Pastor Ron was allowed to take courses with other nearby seminaries (Presbyterian, Methodist, United Church of Christ, Franciscan, and Jesuit and Roman Catholic), which enhanced his passion for an ecumenical, inclusive faith orientation. We are both excited and thankful to have found a church right here at Robson Ranch that embodies the teachings of Jesus.
