Melanie Douglas is one of our members who has been drawing and painting for as long as she can remember. She took several years off from artwork, while raising her daughter and handling a career as a lawyer. Melanie and her husband, Carlos, bought a villa at Robson Ranch five years ago, after visiting good friends here several times. Their primary home is Colorado, but they enjoy the beautiful winter months in Arizona.

Melanie’s medium of choice has been watercolor painting, but she has been dabbling with acrylic and oil as well. She took a few classes sporadically over the years, but basically has learned from trial and error on her own. Melanie prefers realism (paintings that you can actually see what it is), but has been aspiring to get out of the box and try more impressionistic art. She paints all different subjects, but says it is always best to “paint what you love.”

Always encouraging anyone to try out the classes, regardless of any background or ability in art, Melanie enjoys attending as many classes as she can at the Fine Arts Guild. She contends that “the best part of our club is the encouragement and fun we share when we get together and paint!” Melanie monitors at the studio one day each week, from at least January through April. She always is willing to help out fellow artists and provide any tips she can. The Fine Arts Guild also appreciates her acceptance of jobs, such as putting out the monthly monitoring schedule, serving as co-education director, and teaching classes.
