The holidays are now over. Funny how your body has taken the shape of your recliner. Interesting though, how that works, but it comes with some disadvantages: usually pain in the neck, upper and lower back, hips, knees, calves, and shoulders. Pretty much everywhere. It was certainly enjoyable meeting up with family and friends. Oh yes and the food, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s meals … not to mention beverages and late nights.
So now what? Resolutions and diets, they don’t usually work as that sluggish feeling takes over and keeps you from finishing what you have intended to start. However, there is a solution and it’s right here at the Ranch. Just a short distance from where you live. Our very own Desert Sky workout center and the Elevate Movement Studios. Now most will say, “I don’t need to go because I’m retired” or “I work out at home” or “I’ll go tomorrow.” But you would be wrong! Now is the time to start a program to get fit or stay fit. Our bodies begin to slow down as we age. Taste decreases causing weight loss, muscles lose their strength, and balance disappears. Then there are brain functions, eyesight, speech, and memory all being affected by the lack of hydration and fitness.
If you think I’m trying to scare you into a fitness program for yourself, you would be right. After all, you moved here because this place is an Active Adult Community. So, get active! Walk, bike, golf, play tennis or pickleball. If that’s not what you like, then try a workout with the machines or in a class. Remember, socializing is important to help ward off dementia. Working out will help strengthen muscles for increasing balance and hydration lubricates everything and flushes toxins. Is our blood tired and needing Geritol? Or do we need a good swift kick in the pants? Don’t become a slug. Only you can make the decision to get healthy.
