One of our newest members, Linda Nield, joined the Paper Crafting Club just a couple of months ago. Her Aunt Lana gifted her a blank, leather-bound journal several years ago. She wasn’t sure how she wanted to use that little treasure until she saw information about the Robson Ranch Paper Crafting Club in the Mid-Week Scoop and had an epiphany. At her first visit to the club she realized all the wonderful and creative things that could be done to turn this journal into a precious keepsake … she would use it to create a mini travel scrapbook.
Trips originally began with her Aunt Deloras, but through the years the group kept increasing in size to include her other two aunts, Lana and Darlene, as well as her daughter and a cousin or two now and then. Linda refers to these adventures as “Driving the Daisies,” since she serves as their designated trip coordinator, guide, and driver.
Using all the items one would put into a normally large scrapbook, Linda has created a sentimental miniature version inspired by the gift from her Aunt Lana all those years ago. The Daisies have traveled to many destinations. However, all the beauty found in this nation’s National Parks has become the group’s primary destinations. This year’s adventure took them to Lassen Volcanic, Crater Lake, and Redwood National Parks, as well as a three-day scenic drive along the Oregon coast.
Linda believes that her scrapbook idea originally germinated from a fondly remembered time she joined her Aunt Lana at one of the scrapbooking classes she took, many years ago. During the class the instructor pointed out to Linda that she was “not following the instructions” of the provided kit being taught, and was sternly told … “you’re doing it wrong.” However, Aunt Lana whispered to her, in no uncertain terms that … “the right way is any way you wish to do it.” Kudos to Aunt Lana. It’s okay to color outside the lines!
Following that experience, Linda never really took the time to experiment with this craft, as the majority of her time was spent working and raising her small family. However, now that she is retired, she is finding that craft relaxing and enjoyable. She also looks forward to participating in card-making classes, as well as learning other projects—expanding her mind and trying new things. Linda’s ready to create!
