Fused Glass Pocket Vases

Doris Betuel

There is something fun happening in the Fused Glass Club!

Glass vases are made by melting pieces of glass around “pockets” of glass. First, take two pieces of glass. Decorate your glass. Decide how big a pocket you want between your two pieces of glass. Then, place thick pieces of fiber paper between the glass. The fiber paper will not melt and forms a barrier between the two pieces of glass during the fusing process. Then, off to the kiln to fuse. The glass will melt around the fiber paper, leaving a space on the finished project for inserting plants, flowers, or another decorative medium. You can hang them or make self-standing vases! Stick some decorative house plants (either artificial or real), and you’ve got a showstopper.

You are only limited by your imagination in making unique pieces of decorative and functional art. The possibilities are endless. Check out some of the standing and hanging vases by Robson Ranch artists.

Want to give it a try? Get started by taking an orientation class to learn the basics. We offer orientation/beginner classes regularly throughout the year with follow-up classes on how to make interesting projects like these pocket vases. Please email Doris Betuel at dorisbetuel@gmail.com for information or to sign up for a future orientation class. Come join the fun!
