RR Men’s Golf Club capped off the winter tournament season with a new event. Dave Douglas and John Burtis set up the course to play the Buttes 9, BackWards. Forty players signed up to play on a beautiful Arizona spring afternoon for a different challenge, including our very own pro, Jay Wilson.
Divided into two flights, players hit tee shots from the No. 9 tee box, across the desert and rocks, to the No. 8 green. That was hole No. 1.
Then all players moved BackWards to the No. 8 tee box and hit to the No. 7 green.
Jim and Carol Ilten marshaled the No. 9 green KP award and did a great job in presenting the BackWards winner to Everett Goin who was the furthest from the pin, still on the green, beating out Jeff Jones who would have won in any other tournament at six feet from the cup.
Jim Moore won the first annual Ass-BackWards trophy with a net 36, the highest score of the tournament.
Flight one, Larry Sundin had the lowest net score; flight two, Andy Hockett had the lowest net score.
