Who Do You Trust?

Pastor Larry Sundin

Who do you trust? Who do you trust when with the complex decisions of life? Think about all the areas of life where we need to put trust in someone or some institution: Who do you trust with health decisions? Who do you trust with your financial investments? Who do you trust with the security and safety of your future? The point of trusting is to feel safe. Trust is an attempt to know what is going on and to predict what is going to happen in order to cope with our ever changing and unpredictable life. So, who do you trust with the uncertainties and complexities of life?

Do you trust your spouse, a friend, a family member? Do you trust your doctors, financial advisors, lawyers, educators? Do you trust your gut or past experiences? Do you trust your own judgment? You see, all of us live in a world where everyone and everything is competing for our trust today: family members, educators, counselors, lawyers, economic experts, politicians, and even the media are all competing for your trust today. But how do you know who or what to trust today?

As a teacher of God’s Word, I am convinced that the age we live in today is an age of deception. A time where the media chooses the stories they want us to believe. A time when artificial intelligence is making it hard to know who is authentic and real or who is just telling us what they want us to hear. A time when society tells us there is no such thing as absolute truth. It’s a very confusing time. It’s not like the day most of us grew up in, when we could get our news from Walter Cronkite, or Huntly and Brinkly, and never doubt the veracity of their stories. We live in a very deceptive age. So much so, that many people are even having a hard time finding churches that actually preach the truth.

That is why this month at Rock Springs Church we are focusing on the Spirit of Truth, the Holy Spirit. He is the Third Person of the Trinity. He is the One who helps us understand Scripture, who fills us with Christ’s presence, and helps us learn how to live more like Jesus. But for most people, the Holy Spirit is a mystery. He may be a mystery to you as well. And if that is true, then let me encourage you to join us as we spend our Sundays leading up to Easter by taking a fresh look at who the Holy Spirit is and how He might help you find what’s true and good in this life. Rock Springs Church gathers for worship every Sunday in the Hermosa Ballroom at 9 a.m. You are always welcome to come hear the truth of God’s Word with us each week.
