Deborah Dorman, Producer and Director
The stagecoach is roaring into Eloy with some great entertainment for all, The Big Guns or Whose Lily Is She? by Andrew J. and Duke Fenady, a two-act radio show about the Old West, a comedy with live music and sound effects, presented as a 1950’s radio show, Feb. 2 through 5, at the Hermosa Ballroom at Robson Ranch. There will be 18 actors, musicians, and sound effects people on stage throughout the show, with actors playing multiple roles. All cast and crew are volunteers who live in Robson Ranch. The actors have each created characters for their actor/studio selves, as well as playing the script roles of cowboys, ranchers, the requisite bad guys, saloon entertainers, a couple of busybody sisters, and more. The western story concerns Little Lily, who has come to town to find out who her real father is, with two possibilities. Of course, there is romance, as well as rustlers, rescues, and rootin’, tootin’, shoot-’em-up cowboys—well, sort of. All of this is illustrated with some very creative sound effects and music from a five-piece band.
Performances will be on Friday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 4 at 3 p.m.; and a special dinner theater performance on Monday, Feb. 5 at 5 p.m. (Italian buffet and show). There will be a cash bar before each show and at intermission.
Tickets will be available for purchase at the Robson Ranch Sports Center on Thursdays and Saturdays, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., on Dec. 30, Jan. 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, and 25. Tickets are $12 in advance, $20 at the door, and $40 in advance for the dinner theater on Monday night. Last year’s production of Sylvia sold out all three shows in advance. Seating is unreserved, with doors open one hour before each show (one-half hour before the dinner on Monday), and the cash bar will be open.
Program ads and sponsorship are available and welcome until Jan. 8 or so, at which time we’ll be assembling the program. Theater at the Ranch is in its second year of production, with a primary goal of bringing high-quality live theater to Robson Ranch, produced and performed by residents. The group seeks to provide an environment of inclusion and fun, and a learning experience for all involved, on and off the stage, while maintaining high production standards. The majority of our actors and crew so far have been new to the experience, and rise well above our best expectations.
So saddle up and ride on over to get your tickets while they last! Join us for some rollicking hilarity, hoofbeats, and familiar melodies at The Big Guns or Whose Lily Is She?
