What a week! The Roving Ranchers kicked off the new year with a spectacular Mexican cruise aboard Holland America’s Koningsdam from Jan. 4–11, and the fun started even before the ship set sail! Sixty-five Ranchers gathered in sunny San Diego on Jan. 3, with many staying at the Holiday Inn Express. That evening, Joe Murauskis and Lori Rogers rolled out the red carpet with a lively cocktail reception. Laughter filled the room as Ranchers mingled, shared travel tips, and prepared for the adventure ahead. With boarding plans set and dinner tables reserved in the ship’s main dining room, the group broke off to explore San Diego’s culinary scene.
Sail Away and Seafaring Fun
The excitement was palpable on embarkation day as the Ranchers gathered for the Sail Away party on the ship’s aft deck. Braving the brisk ocean breeze, they warmed up with outdoor heaters, camaraderie, and a few toasts to the journey ahead.
The first two days at sea were packed with activities. From lounging by the pool (in jackets!) to exploring the ship’s many amenities, everyone found their vibe. Friendships blossomed over trivia games, happy hours, and the occasional dance-off.
Mexican Magic: Cabo, La Paz, and Loreto
When the Koningsdam arrived in Cabo San Lucas, the Ranchers were ready to dive in—literally! From snorkeling excursions to whale-watching tours, the day was filled with unforgettable adventures. Evening dinners buzzed with stories of sea lions, sandy beaches, and picture-perfect margaritas.
Next up, the charming towns of La Paz and Loreto along the Sea of Cortez stole the show. These hidden gems offered colorful markets, delicious eateries, and plenty of opportunities to sip tequila under the Mexican sun. Ranchers shopped for unique souvenirs, sampled street tacos, and soaked in the laid-back vibes of Baja California.
Smooth Sailing and Ship Shenanigans
The final two sea days were all about fun and relaxation. Calm waters made for smooth sailing as Ranchers teamed up for trivia, enjoyed lively entertainment, and joined the much-anticipated Bar Crawl. Four bars, four signature cocktails, and countless laughs later, the group ended the night with dancing at BB King’s Blues Club.

As the Koningsdam sailed back into San Diego on Jan. 11, the Ranchers were already reminiscing about the incredible memories made. But the adventure doesn’t stop here!
