The Duplicate Bridge Club has been working on establishing a sanctioned bridge club for more than a year to provide a fun and competitive bridge game. To be approved by the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) several requirements need to be completed. The first requirement is having a certified Bridge Director. Joanne Johnson completed that course and was approved in October 2023 to direct games by the ACBL. It also required additional equipment to report the scores to ACBL. We received that equipment in January 2024.
Why do we want to be a sanctioned club? This provides a way for Duplicate Bridge players to compare themselves to players all over the world by earning Master points. For those who just want to play bridge, it’s an easy way to compare your scores at the end of the session with members of your club. We are an open game, so you don’t have to join ACBL to play.
I’d love to have new members join us. We play on Thursday evenings in the Robson Ranch Laredo Room. Registration is at 5:30 p.m., and game time starts at 6 p.m.
