The spirit of community was palpable at the Robson Ranch Democratic Club’s recent bake sale. This delightful event, organized with unwavering enthusiasm and dedication, aimed to support the Parent Support Center—a vital resource that provides essential services to families in need. The results were extraordinary, as the community rallied to surpass their fundraising goal.
The Parent Support Center’s Mission
Tucked away in a nondescript building in Eloy, the Parent Support Center is a beacon of support for families facing various challenges. From providing necessities like food and clothing to offering educational opportunities such as English as a Second Language (ESL) classes and parenting workshops, the center is a lifeline for many in the community. Additionally, it extends its services to computer support, recognizing the importance of digital literacy and access to the internet in today’s world.
The Bake Sale Extravaganza
The bake sale, held on Nov. 18 at the Robson Ranch Craft Fair showcased the power of community collaboration. Democratic Club volunteers came together to contribute their time, skills, and, of course, delicious homemade treats. The vast and irresistible array of cookies, cakes, pies, and bread attracted a steady stream of visitors throughout the day.
Financial Triumph
The bake sale’s success was not just measured in the number of treats sold but in the generosity of the community. The event exceeded expectations, bringing in more than $2,200. This was not only a testament to the community’s love for sweet treats, but also to their commitment to supporting a cause that truly makes a difference.
Surpassing Expectations
The $2,246 raised at this bake sale marked a substantial increase of almost $600 from the previous spring’s efforts. The spring before that saw a doubling of funds, with $1,651 raised. This upward trend reflects not only the growing success of the bake sale but also the community’s commitment to the Parent Support Center’s mission.
Angela Acuna’s Gratitude
Angela Acuna, the driving force behind the Parent Support Center, expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the community’s efforts to make a positive impact on the lives of families in need. During a recent visit to the center, Angela took time out from creating reading projects for the kids to take home during Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks to show us the books collected and the clothes she was able to buy at deep discounts to stock Angela’s Closet, the clothing bank.
Conclusion
Education and literacy are key to opening doors to opportunities that transcend economic hardships. Yet, it is made even more difficult when families are having trouble getting their basic needs for housing, food, and clothes met. As we celebrate the bake sale’s achievements, let us remember that every dollar raised is a step toward breaking down barriers to education and helps to pave the way to a brighter future for the students of Eloy.
