Fisher House at the Tucson VA Medical Center
Martin Bender
For more than 35 years, the Fisher House Foundation has provided a home away from home for families of patients receiving care at military and veteran medical centers. There are 98 Fisher Houses in the United States, plus one in Germany and one in England. In Arizona there is a Fisher House in Tucson and another in Phoenix.
The Fisher House temporary lodging allows the family of a hospitalized service member or veteran to be close and focused on the patient’s healing process. Families of military and veteran patients living more than 50 miles from the VA hospital are eligible to stay at a Fisher House. All Fisher House accommodations are provided for free.
In recognition and in support of their local work, Support Our Troops-Arizona on June 16 presented a grant check for $1,500 to the Fisher House at the VA medical complex in Tucson. The Tucson Fisher House has 16 private bedrooms with baths, a gourmet kitchen, laundry facilities, a spacious living room, a dining room, and a family room, and is within walking distance of the VA Hospital.
Support Our Troops-Arizona (SOT-AZ) thanks the Robson Ranch community for its generous support enabling SOT-AZ to provide financial grants to military and veteran organizations and programs like Fisher House. On Veterans Day morning, Wednesday, Nov. 11, SOT-AZ will be hosting its annual golf tournament. In the evening, the annual SOT-AZ live auction fundraiser will be held in the Hermosa Room.
