I don’t think this is fixable.
Barbara Seawalt
Have you ever had one of those days? Sometimes things just don’t work out the way you want them to.
Many potters have several projects going on at the same time in various degrees of completion. I came in today excited to start a new project. I got out my clay, flattened it to the appropriate ½” slab, and sat down to create. That’s when I realized I don’t have enough clay to complete the piece I had in mind. Darn! I guess I’ll have to go to Plan B … But I don’t have a Plan B.
While I ponder that situation, I’ll check on my most recent creation. It’s on a shelf, drying, waiting to go into the bisque kiln … Oh no! There’s a crack in it! I’ll have to get some fresh clay and the magic water to try to repair it. I just hope it works.
While I wait to see if the patch holds, I might as well work on the project that needs to be glazed … Wait a minute—where’s that perfect shade of blue I want to use? Apparently, someone else used it all and it hasn’t been replaced yet.
Well, I’ll pick up my finished piece that just came out of the glaze kiln … what in the world is THAT?! Looks like someone else’s project broke, and a piece melted onto mine. Aargh! It’s been one of those days.
There’s a mantra we use at the pottery studio: “Don’t fall in love with your project until it’s completed.” Stuff happens.
I’m going home now. But I’ll be back. After all, tomorrow is another day. And I have an idea for Plan B.
