Ropin’ in Yer Relatives: The Genealogy Club Is Back!

Pat Sand

Ropin’ in Yer Relatives, Robson Ranch’s Genealogy Club, will begin meetings in November. We have a slate of wonderful speakers who will share their expertise with our club so we can continue to learn how to further our research.

Ropin’ in Yer Relatives meets the first and third Tuesday of every month from November through March. This year, the club changed the start time to 6 p.m.

The club’s first meeting is on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 6 p.m. in the Laredo Room. Wendy Carlson is the speaker and she will be talking about the website “Find a Grave.” Wendy will review how to use the site and offer tips on finding information about our ancestors who have passed.

Our second speaker for the month will be on Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. Bonnie Belza has provided several presentations to our membership and is returning and to give us an overview of the website rootsmagic.com.

Other speakers for the year are slated as follows:

Dec. 6: Dan Wheeler on “Census Records”

Dec. 20: Our Christmas cookie exchange! Sandra Ristow will be speaking about the “Joy of Genealogy Travel”

Jan. 3, 2023: Tamy Thomsen will share her search on “How I Found My Grandfather”

Jan. 17: Lindsey Harner will be giving us a Zoom presentation about “Occupations” focusing on past and outdated occupations we may see in our research

Feb. 2: Regina Crisman is speaking on “My Travel Trip to NJ” and how her research led her to the East Coast

Feb. 21: David Fryzel will discuss “Secrets of Successful Web Searches” on a Zoom presentation

March 7: Marilyn Simleness will be back and share with us best practices for using the “National Archives”

March 21: Our end-of-the-year meeting includes a potluck picnic and election of officers. The location will be at Kristin Zanas’ home.
