Robson Ranch Residents Helping Habitat for Humanity

Leslie Goossens

Robson Ranch residents partnered with Habitat for Humanity and an Arizona family to build their home from the ground up in Arizona City! The family pays for their home with an affordable mortgage and through a down payment of 200 to 400 sweat-equity hours. Building affordable homes with Habitat for Humanity is not possible without the help of volunteers, and Robson Ranch residents stepped up. Many residents helped with the build over the course of 6 months; some volunteering once a week and others volunteering once a month. Volunteers need no previous construction experience, just a willingness and desire to help. Habitat provides all necessary training and tools on the day of your volunteer opportunity. Tasks vary depending on construction needs and include everything from framing to landscaping.

Robson Ranch volunteers say:

“Habitat for Humanity is my favorite nonprofit organization because it does not give handouts. It requires the recipients to work for the housing they are about to receive. I enjoyed watching them take an active role in building their own home.”Greg Keirns

“The Habitat team leaders really enable the volunteers to learn all the skills necessary to get the job done.”Karma Keirns

“The Habitat Team Leaders really appreciated all of the Robson volunteers, referring to us as the ‘Robson Ranchers.’ The time commitment was only four hours on the volunteer day. It was extremely rewarding to help others make home ownership possible.”Leslie Goossens

“It was really fun to learn the framing of a house. It was fun to see the camaraderie amongst the volunteers, as well as working alongside the people who will own the house. I would highly recommend it.”Kathy Pfeiff

“The Robson Ranch Softball Club had a couple of volunteer day opportunities this year. Several members showed up to help with the build. Some of those members include Kirk Wiedner, Larry Schutzius, Lori Aitken, Jeff Swan, and David Donaghe, amongst others. I enjoyed working alongside club members outside of just softball! They really ‘stepped up to the plate’ to help those in need and look forward to volunteering again in the future.”Fred Goossens

In the fall of 2025, two more homes are slated to begin construction in Arizona City, and one in Casa Grande. Please consider volunteering your time to help. It’s a rewarding experience. To get started, create a Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Hub account at habitatcaz.volunteerhub.com. Once you’ve created an account, you’ll be notified of future volunteer opportunities. Pick the construction site, days that work for you, and sign up for those days. That’s it.

We hope to see many more at the next Arizona City and/or Casa Grande new construction build this fall!
