Paper Crafting Club Member Profile: Rosemarie Maki

Jaine Toth

Rosemarie Maki relocated from Dublin, Ohio, to Robson Ranch with her daughter and son-in-law three years ago.

Once an enthusiastic traveler, her favorite visits were to Machu Picchu and a mule trip down the Grand Canyon. She has participated in many physically active hobbies such as swimming, hiking, and biking, in addition to handcrafts such as knitting, crocheting, and sewing. She now finds herself zeroing in mainly on her new love of paper crafts, specifically card making. Rosemarie joined the Paper Crafting Club about a year ago.

“We are so fortunate to have such a great Creative Arts Center. It has been so much fun learning a new craft with the help and patience of my fellow card crafters,” she told me. Friends and Robson residents Michele Skinner and Mary Anne Sandoval invited her to come check out the club. She did and has embraced it with great enthusiasm.

Rosemarie loves to make cards for her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren who enjoy receiving cards made specifically for them and express appreciation of her creativity. She also makes cards for elderly friends and some of the people she visits as part of her volunteer work as a Homebound Eucharistic Minister, bringing Holy Communion to the sick and homebound.

She was used to simply following a pattern with other crafts, but card crafting is a whole new experience. It challenges her to use her imagination in designing her cards. Learning new techniques, and also how to use the various pieces of equipment at the studio, she feels is keeping her brain young. I’ve noticed that it does wonders for her smile, as well.
