Last year during the Christmas season the Needlecrafters made over 50 pairs of slippers for the patrons of the Eloy Food Bank. This year they chose the patrons of the Garnet at Casa Grande Retirement and Assisted Living Community, located at 510 East 8th Street in Casa Grande, as the recipients for their handmade gifts. The group made 55 lap blankets and shawls for the nursing home patrons. Each item was uniquely made from different kinds of yarn, colors, patterns, sizes and shapes, all with love in each and every stitch for its final recipient. Many of the lap blankets and shawls were made from members’ own personal yarn, while others were made using yarn that had been donated from within the RR community. The nursing home director was very pleased to receive these handmade items as they are able to give them to patrons as special holiday gifts, particularly to those patrons that do not have any family.
The Needlecrafters is a group of yarn crafters that meet each Thursday in Studio 2 at the CAC from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Any and all crafts with yarn are welcome, and skill levels range from beginners to advanced crafters. They share ideas, patterns and stories. Both personal projects and community/charity projects can be worked on anytime. They welcome new members and look forward to sharing their love of these handicrafts with others. If anyone has questions or would like to donate yarn to the group, please contact either Cindy Jensen at [email protected] or Jan Strycker at [email protected].
