The Robson Ranch (RR) Fused Glass Club recently conducted two classes on freestanding glass sculptures! Led by club instructor Janet Krummann and assisted by volunteer instructors, Dema Harris and Mary Nunn, members were taught how to create 3D interlocking fused glass pieces. Two complementary pieces of glass are created and channels are cut into the middle of each piece. After fusing, two pieces are joined in the middle by sliding each piece into the adjoining channels. Voila! A freestanding glass masterpiece.
The class provided each participant the option to make a pumpkin, Christmas tree, cactus, or Easter egg. Each participant was able to create their own design and walked away with the skills to make more unique and fun projects. Check out some of the 3D projects from the class! The class was one of many regularly scheduled continuing education classes that the RR Fused Glass Club offers to members.
If you would like to get started in fusing glass, an introductory class is offered to all Robson Ranch residents to learn the basics of melting glass. From there, you will be able to make vases, bowls, trays, or scenic landscapes that will wow your friends. Then, if you want more, members can sign up for continuing education classes, such as the 3D Interlocking class described in this article. New techniques and ideas are always flowing in the club! Our members range from beginners to bona fide artists, and everyone is welcome! Please email Doris Betuel at dorisbetuel@gmail.com for more information or to sign up for an upcoming introduction class.
