Desert Woodcrafters Happenings

Mike Consentino

We have had quite a bit of reorganizing and cleaning at the woodshop and started having classes again. There were four new members who attended two separate classes. Our new members are Lee Noble, Bill Long, Dan Kearney, and Gary Beack. None of the four members had any experience in the woodshop prior to taking these classes. The first class was our basic handle class where members learned about the lathe and basic cutting tools, and fashioned some beautiful handles to attach to a bottle opener. The second class was our basic lathe and bowl turning class which is a good way to get started creating some unique and usable items. The class was broken up into two sessions of two hours each, held on consecutive afternoons. As you can see in the accompanying pictures what a great job they all did on their projects. All the bowls were made from canary wood which can have some very nice coloring and patterns to it. Congratulations to all!
