The Democratic Club of Robson Ranch (DCRR), which has about 130 members and growing, has been very busy between meetings with guest speakers, social activities such as monthly Bunco and periodic parties, the charity bake sale at the Arts and Crafts Fair, and political activities. The bake sale proceeds have been going to support the Eloy Elementary School District’s Parent Resource Center (“Angela’s Closet”), which provides food, clothing, household goods, homeless family support, computer access, and more to families in need. On April 5, members of the DCRR joined with the Democrats of Casa Grande and others at a rally in Casa Grande that was part of the national “Hands Off” protest across the country. Over 300 people attended the Casa Grande event (it ranged from 250 to over 400 during the two hours). It was a peaceful protest in support of democratic institutions, checks and balances, and Constitutional rights. Further such rallies will continue to be held locally.
The club holds meetings for members and prospective members on alternate Monday mornings and Tuesday afternoons, to accommodate as many attendees as possible. The schedule going forward will be Monday, May 5 at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 3 at 3 p.m., Monday, July 7 at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 5 at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 3 p.m., Monday, Oct. 6 at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m., and Monday, Dec. 8 at 10 a.m.
Meetings are held in the Cheyenne Room (or Cheyenne-Laredo), and speakers are announced in advance in the Mid-week Scoop and via email to members. The meetings are structured to encourage discussion. Bunco is generally the last Friday of the month, and social gatherings are planned for May 8, July (date tba), and Oct. 31, as well as either December or January. A “field trip” or two are also in the works.
Membership is open to Democrats, Independents, and others who share progressive values such as equality and diversity, health care for all, public schools, environmental protection, legal and compassionate immigration control, women’s rights, the rule of law and more, and wish to gather with those of like minds. There is no more important time in recent history to support each other and these values than now, and no one should feel alone during these days. Dues are $20 per person per calendar year. The club does not raise money for candidates or have a PAC, and has no official connection with any other Democratic organization. The club very much welcomes new members, whether you join for social or political reasons or both, and there are opportunities to be as involved as you wish.
