Congratulations to Stu Shapiro!

Doris Betuel

In the January edition of the Robson Ranch Views, you read about Robson Ranch resident Stu Shapiro who set out to walk 160 miles over a six-day period to raise awareness and money for the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society. The walk was to honor his daughter, Marci, who is battling MS. Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease affecting the central nervous system where the body attacks the protective covering of the nerves preventing signals from the brain to other parts of the body.

Stu trained for months, and his goal was to walk 26 miles a day for six days, culminating his epic walk with a 3mile stroll at the Walk MS: Phoenix event on March 29. It was a monumental task and pushed him to his limits. The walk took place amid difficult conditions, as the daytime temperatures soared to unseasonable highs of 90+ degrees for most of the week. Aside from the first two days, Stu had to resort to walking at night to beat the heat. In total, he walked 161.09 miles over a six-day period!

Stu’s goal was also to raise $10,000 for the MS Society. As of this date of this article, we are pleased to report he more than exceeded that goal and raised an impressive $15,224. Way to go, Stu! If you see him out and about, be sure and give him a thumbs up! Thank you to everyone who donated to this worthy cause.
