Karen was a devoted wife and mother to her family. In addition to the eulogy that I spoke at her funeral service, I felt a need to create a more lasting remembrance of her for our family. Karen always demonstrated a genuine simplicity in her lifestyle. She always placed the needs of our family of seven well before her own needs and wants. She loved us all unconditionally. Then came the empty nest. Then, and only then, did Karen indulge in a single simple pleasure—the love of multi-colored blouses. She had quite the collection. I conceived the idea to have some quilts made using the material from her tops. I found Sue Parham, a Minnesota-based quilter who agreed to the task. Thus far, she has made five beautiful quilts, which I passed on to family members—and there are still more blouses left! They promised to keep them and pass them on to their offspring to be displayed as family heirlooms. For this way of remembering Karen, I will be eternally grateful. If you would like information about the quilt lady, please contact me, Bob Skier, at 520-213-2783, or email me at [email protected].
