Are you an active adult? Are you prepared for your future? I’m quite sure you don’t know what the future may bring, but right now most of you are enjoying life in the sun. It’s an exciting time in our lives. Many of us are retired or working from home, giving us the opportunity to enjoy what you want to do.
But what if something happens to put a stop to all the fun? It has happened to me. At almost 80 I’ve been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. A possible debilitating brain disorder. It hasn’t stopped me from doing what I want to do, but the symptoms may increase, forcing me to slow way down. Doctors believe the most important thing I’ve done and can continue to do is to exercise. I’ve been exercising for years and now take six fitness classes per week to fight this disease. This is an example of something happening unexpectedly. Be prepared for what you don’t know. Start now to stabilize your mind and body. The easy start would be to start walking daily. Activities like golf or cornhole won’t get your heart rate up for any length of time, so why not think about biking, jogging, or swimming. Oh, how about our gym or fitness center? There is so much right here at the Ranch. We’ve got bikes, stair steppers, treadmills, ellipticals, rowing and swimming at the Desert Sky Sports Club. Or sign up for circuit training (TRX), reps classes, water aerobics, yoga, Pilates, and spin bike classes. There is also specialty equipment like the SmartFit or Power Plate for coordination and balance. The equipment and classes are designed for you. Start a program today and stay healthy, and be prepared for any sudden mishap.
Exercise can help with your muscle growth, cognitive brain function, and balance. We may not want to think about changes in our lives, but they are going to happen. Muscles weaken and shrink, loss of about 70% of your taste buds occurs, memory loss, failing eyesight, and balance issues are all a part of natural aging. You can help slow these processes down with regular exercise and proper meal preps
Give exercise a try even if you’ve never done it before. Gather your courage and sign up for a class or visit the gym. There are great instructors here to help you get started! Remember:
Workout for Life! Make Fitness a Part of Your Day!
