The Robson Ranch Singers are continuing their weekly practices for the Holiday Show in December. The theme of this year’s show is “Through the Eyes of a Child… The Wonder of the Holidays.” This year’s show will feature songs about childhood amazement and curiosity regarding the various holidays, experiences, and celebrations that are part of the events and traditions that occur during that time of the year.
Cath Chambers, soprano, shared a memory of the good days …,when she was early school age and lived in Seattle. Her mom would take her and her brother to downtown Seattle on the bus to see the scenes in the display windows. She specifically loved the old fashioned Santas with mechanical arms waving and doing things to prepare for his “big trip.”
Steve Gove, tenor, also reiterated the wonder of downtown Seattle during the holidays. He said “Mother would take my brother and me to downtown Seattle to the Frederick and Nelson store. We would press our noses up to the window and watch the toy train travel to toy town. Then we got in line to see Santa. And get that annual picture. Anyone and everyone who went to F&N to see Santa has a picture and it is the same Santa in every picture. After seeing Santa, we would go to the candy display and get one treat. Great memories!”
Lou Bartlett, alto, shared her reflections of Christmas and Christmas Eve in her small town of Idalou, Texas (population 625). She remembers munching on Christmas cookies and candy as they toured the twinkling lights and beautiful Christmas trees in the picture windows around town. Also, she remembers fondly the special music and plays at church and the excitement of opening that one special present on Christmas Eve morning. She says it was always a toy/game meant to keep her and her two brothers busy while their parents prepared the wonderful Christmas dinner. And of course, the wonder of wonders … knowing that “Santa would show up tomorrow morning (if we were good of course)! But best of all was just the happy feeling of being loved by my family and Jesus.”
