It is hot now, but the holidays are coming! And so is the Robson Ranch Singers Holiday Show. Our show, “Through the Eyes of a Child … the Wonder of the Holidays” will be held on Tuesday evening, Dec. 9, and Wednesday evening, Dec. 10, in the Hermosa Ballroom at the Ranch House.
This year’s show will feature songs about childhood amazement and curiosity regarding the various holiday experiences, celebrations, events, and traditions that occur during that time of the year. Maybe some of you can relate to the experiences that some of the members of the RR Singers shared for this article.
Director Laurie Laramie reflected on one of the traditions that she remembers: “Do any of you remember the old color wheels that used to sit at the foot of the Christmas tree? Well, in my house growing up we had a white tree and every year I couldn’t wait for my parents to set it up with the color wheel in the living room. I was in awe every year just sitting in that room being mesmerized by the changing colors as the wheel went around for hours on end. It still touches my heart with wonder when I just think about it!”
Associate Director Beth Forbes shared her favorite wonder-filled memory regarding her childhood holiday experiences. “My mother was an amazing reader! My siblings and I (four kids under age 5!) would sit with her in the overstuffed chair—two in her lap, one on each chair arm—captivated while she brought stories to life! At Christmastime it was ‘The Night Before Christmas!’ and ‘The Christmas Story’ from the Gospels–each so real and full of wonder. I thank my mother for making Christmas in our home magical, wonderful, and meaningful. Well into my adulthood I was always the biggest kid at Christmas! Maybe I still am!”
Mark your calendars now to join us as we walk through that time of year, looking at the holidays with wonder through the eyes of a child. Tickets will go on sale later in the fall, so watch the Mid-Week Scoop for details. Hope to see you Dec. 9 or 10!
