Despite soaring afternoon temperatures hitting 101 degrees Fahrenheit, the Roving Ranchers’ Golf Cart Poker Run went off without a hitch on April 12. Twenty golf carts took to the streets for a fun-filled afternoon of games, laughter, and a whole lot of snacks—all while hopping from house to house in true poker run fashion.
Stop 1: Lori and Andy Aitken
The event kicked off at Lori and Andy Aiken’s home, where guests were greeted with festive card-themed décor: tablecloths covered in playing cards, dollar sign cutouts, and a spread of delicious appetizers. Joe Murauskis and Gerard Whittman handled registration, and participants drew their first card before heading to the next stop.
Stop 2: Sondra and Eddie Bowers
The second house belonged to Sondra and Eddie Bowers, who served up refreshing lemon jello shots, adult “kool-aid,” mini cheesecakes, and bourbon meatballs. Selfie props let guests snap pics as the King or Queen of Hearts—a favorite among the crowd.
Stop 3: Ron and Sandy Fish
Ron and Sandy Fish hosted stop number three, offering ice-cold margaritas and mango prosecco alongside a buffet of individually bagged snacks. Their shady pergola and sparkling pool offered a tempting retreat from the heat—though most resisted the urge to dive in!
Stop 4: Cathy and Barry Stevenson
At the fourth stop, Cathy and Barry Stevenson impressed with a cheese and salami platter cleverly arranged in the shapes of card suits. Their table was filled with more card-themed treats, adding to the playful atmosphere.
Final Stop: Eddie and Michelle Peters
The final destination was Eddie and Michelle Peters’ unique home, where guests were wowed by an Iowa Hawkeyes-themed den. The dining room was atypical, with an air hockey table and a retro Pac-Man game instead of a traditional dining table. Out back, their yard featured four mini-golf holes, where players tried their luck after drawing their final card. Desserts of cheesecake bites and cupcakes were a tasty finish.
And the Big Winners Were…
Third Place: Lisa Bowers
Second Place: Dave Dempsey
First Place and $150 richer: Barry Stevenson, who played his cards right!
But honestly? Everyone won—with laughs, sunshine, cold drinks, and new memories made. The only thing hotter than the weather was the fun. Can’t wait to shuffle up and deal again next time!
