The Desert Woodcrafters Club manages the woodshop at the Creative Arts Center. If you have interest in woodworking and are curious about what tools and equipment are in the shop, come on by and get a tour from either the shop monitor or one of the helpful members that regularly use the shop. The shop is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon, depending upon the availability of shop monitors.
To become a member residents (including renters) must take an Orientation and Safety class, sign a Waiver of Claims and Release of Liability and pay the dues. The 2025 dues are $120 for the full year and $60 for the last half of year. There are approximately $140,000 worth of tools and equipment in the shop available for use by the club members. Yes, that is correct! Basically, $10/month for $140,000 worth of tools and equipment in a nicely maintained shop. The dues are low because the HOA participates in the purchase of the tools and equipment.
Most new members have not worked in a woodshop since high school. After a short time of learning the tools and taking some classes, new members make creative and beautiful works of useful art. After a couple of years in the shop, the new members are then training other new members. It doesn’t take long to learn the tools and start venturing into your own areas of interest: crafts, turning, furniture, restoration, etc.
If you have interest, come on by and take a look.
