In January, two groups of Material Girls traveled to Hereford, Arizona for an annual three- or four-day quilting/sewing retreat at Ritter Ranch. Hosted by Sheila and Bill Ritter, a fun time was had by all being pampered with good food, comfortable quarters and no household responsibilities! Quilt tops were sewn (some until wee hours in the morning), games were played with prizes related to quilting (of course), learning from each other and sharing stories rounded out the activities. We all had so much fun that many have already signed up for a return to the Ranch next year.
It’s that time of year once again when, sadly, our winter members start slowly packing up and going north for the summer. The full-timers are already looking forward to their return. Our last business meeting before the summer break is on Friday, April 12 at 9:30 a.m. We welcome new members to come out and find out what all we are doing. Membership is limited to Robson Ranch residents and their houseguests as well as renters. Dues are $20 per year and you can visit two times before dues are collected. Monies from our dues, profits from our raffle quilt ticket sales and the craft fairs, support the purchase of fabric and supplies we need to fulfill our ongoing commitments to our charities.
We will continue to sell raffle tickets for the 2019 Wall Hanging quilt which was assembled using a pattern by Navajo designer Anita Good and it will be raffled off in November 2019. Tickets can be purchased from any member in the Sewing Room at the Creative Arts Center.
Using the proceeds of these raffles we support the Family Advocacy Center for Children and provide the Eloy Police Department with two quilts for each police car for when they must remove a child from a home. The Material Girls also support the Eloy Senior Center and make comfort quilts for our own residents who have a serious illness or who have lost a spouse. Please contact Marge Doughty at 360-739-9990 if you know a Robson resident who might need one.
Come and sew with us; we have a lot of fun! Regular sewing days at the Creative Arts Center are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. If you would like more information about the club please contact one of the following members: Karn King 520-233-0227 [email protected], Donna Payne 815-488-6861 [email protected], Robin Tisinger 520-423-2623 [email protected] or Patty Folly 503-804-6260.
