The Fine Arts Guild sponsored a Beginning Drawing Class for their members in April. Some participants were new to drawing and others just wanted a good review.
When the participants were seated, they found a page with half of a black and white Xeroxed cat, the other half of the cat on a full color magazine page and two pieces of paper, one piece blank and the other with a circle or triangle. Kathy Arend limbered the class up with a few drawing exercises and a discussion on composition using the circle or triangle. Then the class set out to finish drawing the other half of the cat on the Xeroxed sheet after JoAnn Bunyea explained how to measure the colored half of the cat to complete the black and white cat picture. The class was then provided with numerous photographs of pots and plants. By choosing a photo of a pot and also one of a plant, the class learned to combine desired parts of multiple photos to establish a composition to draw. On the second studio/lab day, the class followed up by coloring their compositions in colored or watercolor pencils. The Guild members appreciate the willingness of our talented members to share their knowledge. Three summer classes are scheduled to be given by these two very talented ladies. Class size will be limited, but we hope to open up these classes to our members first and then to the Robson community.
Membership in the Fine Arts Guild is $20 per calendar year. Generally, we have a variety of classes at least ten months of the year including the summer. The cost of classes is cheaper for our members and even less if one has his or her own supplies. Even when we do not have classes, some of our talented members are willing to teach or show you techniques and tips in their specific medium during open studio time.
