John Sutton
We had a tremendous turnout for our first two Robson Unplugged events in the Tack Room. Thank you for all your support. We really appreciate it!
Last month we featured three guitar duos, and what a night we had. Each duo was unique in its own way. We had great performances by Skip Syer and Jeff Jones, Dale Johnson and Jonathan Eddy, and rounding out the evening was Ken Muhlbeier and Richard Shine.
Let’s talk about our line-up for the March 16 event. We will start the evening with an authentic 1950s rock band playing our old sock hop favorites. We will be using the same types of instruments you see in the old Bill Hailey and the Comets clips. The band will feature Jeff Jones on acoustic rhythm guitar, Ken Muhlbeier on lead guitar, Skip Syer on drums, Larry Marik on tenor sax, and I will round out the bottom end on upright bass. Everyone will do a little singing too.
At around 6:00 we will change gears and have Mariachi Nueva Era. This is a local band that performs regularly at the Chicano Grill in Casa Grande and has also been hired to play private events here in Robson. The leader, Martin Calleros, is a former guitar student from Central Arizona College who is a versatile player and also played lead guitar in the college jazz band. His band members will include Scott Ludwig, Alberto Mora and Jaime Casillas.
We will conclude our evening by bringing Wally Waluk and Marilyn Konruff back. On their first performance in January I underestimated the amplification needed to fill the room. This time everyone will get to hear them, including those sitting in the back, because we have upgraded our sound equipment. I have talked to many of our residents, and they are happy Wally and Marilyn are returning.
