Needle Crafters Supports Program for Homeless Teens

Diana Oleson

I have been working with this really great fundraiser called Support Our Students. They help disadvantaged students at all Casa Grande area public schools by funding Help Closets, which provide basic needs such as food, clothing, and personal hygiene items. In addition, they assist students with advanced placement testing and caps and gowns. The Needle Crafters had some items in the craft fairs that did not sell and were not useful for our charities, so we donated them to Support Our Students fundraiser and they will include them in their baskets for an upcoming raffle. I firmly believe that we need to help our youth to succeed, as they are the future of our country and this is a great way to help those that are at a disadvantage to get ahead.

The fundraiser, called Bites and Baskets, will be held at Casa Grande Union High School Cafeteria, 2730 N Trekell Road on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2020, from 2–4:30 p.m. Donation of $15 per person is requested. Tickets available at Mission Royale Adult Community Front Desk and at all Casa Grande Schools. Raffle tickets will be sold separately from 2 to 4:15 p.m.

Hope to see you there to sample savories from local restaurants and buy a winning ticket for a specialty basket for a worthy cause. For more information visit www.soscg.org.

If you are unable to attend, you may consider a donation of a new or hand-crafted item for the raffle baskets. The Needle Crafters’ basket is called Easter in a Basket and we are making items related to Easter for the kitchen, decorating the table, and, or course, candy will be included. Donation items can be dropped off at the Creative Arts Center on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon with the Needle Crafters. Feb. 13 is the last day to drop off, or email Diana at [email protected] for other arrangements.

Tip for February is: “When cross stitching on light-colored fabric, keep a dark-colored cloth across your lap and vice versa.”

Come join the Needle Crafters at the Creative Arts Center on Thursdays from 9 a.m. till noon; make new friends, create new things, or learn a new craft.
