A Church About Jesus

Pastor Larry Sundin

When people first hear about Rock Springs Church, I am often asked what our church is like. I often reply by saying, “We are a church about Jesus, who preaches the Bible and makes disciples.” Our vision statement says pretty much the same thing. Rock Springs is “People Helping People Become Friends, Family, and Followers of Jesus.”

But what does it really mean to be a church about Jesus? It means that Jesus is really central to all we do. Jesus is central to the gospel we preach and teach. We believe that apart from Jesus’ offering, His life for us on the cross, we would never have the hope of reconciliation with God, we would never know the forgiveness of sin, we would never know the abundant life God gives, and we would never know God as our good Father who always loves us and is always for us.

Jesus is also central to our relationships with one another. We believe we were never meant to go it alone, but to help one another trust and follow Jesus together. So, we encourage everyone to connect with a Journey Group with others of the same gender. It is through these groups we encourage, support, and care for one another as we seek to learn from Jesus how to live and love like Him.

Jesus is also central to our mission together. We believe Jesus has called us to be His witnesses in our Jerusalem, our Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. So, we are learning how Jesus would have us love our neighbors right here in Robson Ranch; how Jesus would have us serve our neighbors through the Santa Cruz Valley Food Bank in Eloy; how Jesus would have us love the people of Ocean Beach in our shared ministry with Regeneration Church in San Diego; and how Jesus would have us bless children around the world in our partnership with Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child.

One of the biggest reasons that we are a church about Jesus, is that we believe Jesus is the hope our world needs today. With Jesus, we have hope that our future is secure. With Jesus, we have hope that He still changes lives. And, with Jesus, we have found a hope that gives us purpose, joy, and meaning for the day in which we find ourselves. So, if you’re looking for some hope these days, or a church that really is all about Jesus, then we encourage you to join us Sunday morning. Rock Springs now meets every Sunday at 9 a.m. in the Hermosa Ballroom, as we continue to learn what it means to trust and follow Jesus.
