RR winter softball update

For weeks, members of the softball team prepared the field for play—permanent batter’s box at home plate, topping on the outfield fences, tons of a special additive on the infield, warming bat boxes. With the sponsors’ banners surrounding the field and the grass neatly mowed, it was time to start the first tournament of the 2014-2015 season.

Robson Ranch competed along with Palm Creek, Road Runners from Mesa, and POW from Tucson in the tournament. As the fans gather on the bleachers on a sunny Friday morning, the teams took the field. Each team played three games, all hoping to take the win. Knowing that the weather for Saturday was going to be rainy, the coaches decided to play the final games on Sunday.

Early Sunday morning the Robson team members made sure that the rain-soaked field was ready for play. To determine the champion of the tournament, each team had to play two games. When the last out was called, the first-place award went to the Road Runners from Mesa. Dave Rinaldo and Paul Gayer coached the Robson team to a second place finish. Congratulations to all the teams who participated in the tournament and made it such a success.

The Robson Ranch Softball Club would like to thank Maurice and Barb Parobec from Palm Creek who served as umpires; Paul Lewinski, Dave Douglas and Barb Hillan who announced the games; and our scorekeepers, Jan Campbell and Rose Rinaldo. Thanks also to the Robson Ranch Grille staff for grilling the hamburgers and hot dogs!

Our next tournament at Robson will be February 20-21. Come out and cheer on your Robson team!
