On Tuesday morning, June 6, 2017, Alan and Nancy Friedman, residents at Robson Ranch representing the Casa Grande RC Flyers and The Academy of Model Aeronautics, presented a program about drones and model aviation to students at the “Summer of Code” program at Casa Grande’s Desert Willow Elementary School. Invited by one of the program’s teachers, Mrs. Nicole Mendenhall, the Friedmans showed a video about the Wright brothers’ aircraft and principles of flight and demonstrated how those principles applied to both fixed wing and quad copter flight. After questions from the students were answered, the students moved outside and watched Mr. Friedman demonstrate a flight of a drone aircraft.

This presentation given by the Friedmans and members of the Casa Grande RC Flyers is the fourth this year at area schools and 4H groups. It is the mission of the Casa Grande RC Flyers to promote model aviation and to give back to our community by supporting local charities and offering programs to educate area residents, both young and old, about aviation. The club also offers free model aircraft flying lessons at the club field on Isom Road across from the public shooting range. More information about the Casa Grande RC Flyers, which is an Arizona non-profit cooperation and an Academy of Model Aeronautics sanctioned club, can be found on their website at www.CasaGrandeRCFlyers.com.

The Casa Grande RC Flyers and their field should not be confused with the club and field near the edge of Robson Ranch. The Casa Grande RC Flyers is open to anyone regardless of their residence.
