Residents step up for annual food drive

Nicole McCracken

Robson Ranch residents hit it out of the park again with their generous donations to the Eloy Food Bank. Thank you to everyone who donated! Once a year, there is the Stamp Out Hunger Letter Carrier Food Drive where residents across the nation are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items that are picked up by the postal carriers. If you have the chance, I would encourage you to volunteer at one of the collection sites. For many years when I was in Washington State, we would go to the Lent’s Post Office in Portland and help unload the mail trucks when they returned. We would fill 5’x5’x5’ boxes with the donations that would then be loaded onto semi-trucks that are taken to the local food banks. Some years it could be multiple truck loads which would lead to a very tiring day, but well worth it. Volunteers are then needed at the local food banks to sort and shelve all of these donations. It is quite an experience to be a part of!
