Does anyone know the history of knitting?

The question here is how did anyone come up with the idea of knitting in the first place? It does not mimic anything in nature like weaving; spider webs and bird nests are woven. Evidence of the earliest knitting using two needles is believed to come from Egypt in the eleventh century, where more knitted socks were found. Egyptian nalbinded socks have moderate-looking stitch gauges such as you might have differences between “woven” and “knitted” less significant in ancient times than the way we view them today. There is evidence of knitting worked on rods in the Islamic period in Egypt, which began c. A.D.639.

The point that I am trying to make is that knitting is an old art form, and it would be a shame for it to die out from lack of interest. One can express themselves in color and in creating an original knitted item. There is a lot of room for creativity and expressing ones individuality.
